Common questions

• Where is my data kept? On your phone, and nowhere else. Mala has no account and never connects to the internet.
• Will I lose my counts if I change phones? Settings › Backup and data › Export writes a single file you can import on the new phone. An iCloud device backup also carries it.
• Can I count without looking at the screen? Yes. The volume buttons count, and a recorded mantra counts each chant on its own.
• Where do my recordings go? They stay on your phone. They are never uploaded.
• Can I add my own mantra? Yes, in any script. A name is the only thing required.

Privacy policy

Mala does not collect any data.

There is no account, no sign-up, and no analytics. The app never connects to the internet, so nothing you do in it is transmitted anywhere.

Everything you enter — your mantras, counts, session history, reminders, and any audio you record — is stored only on your device. If you use iCloud device backup, that data is part of your own backup under Apple's privacy terms, and we have no access to it.

Microphone. If you record a mantra in your own voice, the recording is saved on your device and played back by the app. It is never uploaded and never leaves your phone.

Notifications. Reminders are scheduled locally by your device. Nothing is sent to any server.

We do not share data with third parties, because we do not have any of it.
